The Co-Opting of Black Lives Matter By The Fringe Left
The meteoric rise of the Black Lives Matter political organization has been hard to miss, so long as you have had a pulse and access to the internet over the past month. The death of Geroge Floyd during his arrest has, unlike that of Tony Timpa, galvanized people to gather in the streets and voice their frustrations. While we can debate about the underlying facts and the motivations of those in media & pop culture who glom on to movements like this, there is no debate that large groups of people have felt moved by this situation.
To the casual observer, and particularly to those individuals who have grown up in America where the education system ensures that you are wholly informed of that fact that many rich white people used to own slaves (while neglecting to mention other demographic related information of slave owners), it would be easy to understand that black Americans have frustrations about the past of our country.
What the average person might not notice, though, is the perpetual and ever-progressing push for fringe-left ideologies, which are being propped up and emphasized during times of civil unrest.
As a political organization, Black Lives Matter has an agenda that is focused on far more than simply ending police brutality, teaching racist people to reform their ways, or giving young black Americans confidence and strength through ideas like self-responsibility.
Instead, Black Lives Matter tells you clearly on their website that their ideals are built upon a far-left framework.
- “We disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure”
- “We make our spaces family-friendly and enable parents to fully participate with their children.”
- “These are the results of our collective efforts”, “We engage comrades...”, “We cultivate an intergenerational and communal network”
Disrupting the Nuclear Family Structure
The first red flag that I saw when perusing Black Lives Matter’s “What We Believe” page was this line about disrupting the “Western-prescribed nuclear family structure.”
First of all, it is not a “western” idea that children should be raised by their mother and father, nor does this supposed western construct preclude one from being able to be raised in-part by extended family.
It is objectively factual that for a child to be given the best chances at a healthy life both mentally and physically, that the child should be raised in a strongly bonded family, and that the child should not be exposed to traumas such as those that come along with crime, drug abuse, etc. As someone who was raised in a single parent home and exposed to drug addicts and homelessness at a young age, I know full well some of the downstream impacts that come as a result of living in a broken home.
One must wonder, why would those who supposedly claim to want to help black Americans push for an idea such as dissolving the nuclear family structure?
According to the greatest author of all time, Thomas Sowell, 88% of black children were raised by both parents, prior to the welfare expansions of the 1960’s. By 1985, 67 percent of black American children were raised by only one or even no biological parent.
From 1940 to 1960, the black poverty rate fell from 87% to 47%, despite this being a time when racism and discrimination were high as ever and even codified into the law. How were black Americans able to move up in the world during times when the country itself was working against them? The strong nuclear families of black American communities prior to the 1960’s allowed for this succcess.
I am suspicious of the intentions of anyone who asserts that breaking up family structure is a good thing. Whether using basic common sense, scientific study, or a look in to history to see what happens when nuclear families are no longer the norm, it is clear that this would undermine the success of any population. This is being pushed by the Black Lives Matter political organization, and it seems antithetical to what would actually help the long term prospects of black Americans as a whole.
I believe that we are going to see legislation proposed, or at least ideas floated, that will claim to help black Americans (akin to the welfare of the 1960’s which helped dissolve many black American families) , when in reality all these ideas or new policies will do is incentivize single or no parent homes, depriving children of role models and perpetuating issues which have grown over the past 60 years.
Indoctrination of the Youth
From “Drag Queen Story Hour” to the infestation of primary school education with concepts from gender and race critical theory, western youths are being indoctrinated into the camps of woke leftist ideology.
At a young age, the worldview of children is being skewed by the religion-like ideologies that arise from critical studies. Whether lessons that ask students about their sexual orientation, teaching kindergartners to be critical of gender stereotypes, activists posing as educators and administrators want to proselytize to the children of America, while preventing parents from opting out of the curriculum.
This is certain to continue forward if the average person does not push back against the ideological affront we face, and it will move from a focus on sex and gender into the areas of race. Hence why we get this statement from BLM: “We make our spaces family-friendly and enable parents to fully participate with their children.”
Clearly, those in power in the BLM organization want children on board early, so the world view and perception of reality for these children can be molded like clay to match that of the critical theorists these activists learned from. It is not that they want to teach children about objective facts that the children can then go on from to form independent opinions, but rather to dictate the worldview these children should hold, limiting their ability to think critically, akin to religious fundamentalism being instilled in children.
Collective, Communal Comrades
Anyone with a half-hours worth of education on Marxism could easily see the word choice and jargon used on the Black Lives Matter web page is intentionally crafted to dog-whistle allegiance to the cringe fringe of the far left.
It is no accident that an organization which is said by one of its founders to be led by “trained marxists” would make widespread use of terms which are prevalent in communist and otherwise marxist/leninist circles.
Similarly, convicted domestic terrorist Susan Rosenberg, who was pardoned by Bill Clinton, was listed as being on the board of directors for Thousand Currents, a leftist fundraising organization. Unsurprisingly, this group was tasked with managing the fundraising for Black Lives Matter in the wake of the George Floyd incident.
Keeping Context In Mind
I think one of the more important things to keep in mind is the context regarding why things are happening at this point in time.
Just like the time frame leading up to the 2016 election, Black Lives Matter was pushed to prominence for various reasons, a significant reason being that the Democrats seek to push identity politics leading into an election cycle.
By pushing narratives that center around race, gender and sexuality, Democrat politicians can trap people into voting for them, as they paint Republicans as antithetical to one’s identity.
It is not in fact true that the policies the Democrats push are invariably helpful to non-cis/white/males, but what is true is that this is how they drum up support from their voting base.
All in all, it makes sense that Black Lives Matter has risen to prominence once again, seeing as the 2020 election is only 3 months away. Because the Democrats have an elderly man who appears to have dementia running as their Presidential candidate, they must do all that they can to shift the focus away from them, on to their opposition.
They do this by pushing negative propaganda directed toward American history, “whiteness”, the police, Trump, the Republicans, and essentially anything they can in order to foster hatred toward anything other than the left wing Democrats.
When you can rile people up with emotion, you can control them toward your desired ends.
